Battle
River Community Foundation
Rudy and Flora Baker Scholarship in Medicine
This scholarship is
funded by a bequest from the estate of the late Rudy Baker.
Rudy Baker, who passed away in December of 1998, was born in Holland
and came to
Canada in the 1930s. He and his wife, Flo, lived on the west coast,
where Rudy worked
for the Hyster Company until his retirement, when the couple returned
to the New
Norway area.
Predeceased by his
wife and foster daughter, Rudy thoughtfully left a will that benefited
the people and groups that were important to him and those
organizations he thought
could make a difference. Rudy placed a high value on education and the
Fund he
created with the Battle River Community Foundation was established to
assist students
who are pursuing a career in medicine.
The Rudy and Flora Baker
Scholarship in Medicine provides scholarships for students:
-
who are entering
a faculty of medicine at a university in Canada
-
who have
graduated from Grade 12 in the Battle River Regional Division No. 31
-
who have been
active participants in community activities
-
who are in need
of financial assistance for their studies
There will
be no scholarship awarded in 2009.
