About the Foundation

The Battle River Community Foundation was created by local people who wanted to help local communities thrive.

Since its inception, the Foundation has served as a conduit to match community-minded donors with worthy causes and organizations that exist to support the local area. The Foundation has three main roles:

  1. Work with donors who want to make meaningful and lasting contributions to the current and future wellbeing of their communities;
  2. Identify community needs;
  3. Support charitable organizations that provide programs and services which strengthen and enhance our local communities.

From education and healthcare to arts and recreation; from organizations for children or elders to villages and community services; the Battle River Community Foundation helps bring donors and recipients together.

By making a financial contribution to the Foundation, donors are able to invest in building permanent endowment funds which generate income that is used to give back to the community year after year.

If a donor has a specific passion, the Foundation can direct contributions to that cause. If a donor’s intent is to support all aspects of the community, the Foundation can direct contributions to those who need it most.

With a mission to be “a vehicle to accept and manage funds of community-minded people, creating a permanent legacy that benefits the community, fosters a spirit of giving and meets donors’ wishes” the Foundation continues in its role of connecting people and causes, for the betterment of both.

Mission

We provide a vehicle to accept and manage funds of community-minded people, creating a permanent legacy that benefits the community, fosters a spirit of giving and meets donors’ wishes.

History

In the early 1990s, one man’s expressed desire to donate to the entire community sparked a chain reaction that continues to this day.

His wish resonated with others who believed that, by pooling their resources, they could help build a strong future for their community.

In 1995 the Greater Camrose Community Foundation was born, created by a small group of citizens with a shared vision to establish an ongoing, long-term means of supporting worthy community causes that enhance quality of life.

The Foundation began with 10 Board members, each of whom contributed $1,000. That small pool soon became slightly larger when a group of siblings used the Foundation to create a fund in honour of their parents. And the pool has been growing ever since.

By the year 2000, it became clear that the Foundation’s “community” was much larger than just the immediate Camrose area — it encompassed a much broader portion of east central Alberta. In recognition of this fact, the name was changed to the Battle River Community Foundation.

That same year, the initial $10,000 in assets topped $500,000. In 2022 assets have stretched to over $20,800,000.
