Events
The Foundation connects with various stakeholders in our communities though the hosting of three annual marquee events. These events provide opportunities to celebrate contributions made by individuals in our communities along with impacts local charities have made in part though Foundation grants, provide and receive information, as well as continual fund development allowing for even greater community impact in the future. We hope to see you at an upcoming event!
Community Builder Dinners
What is a Community Builder? We know them as people who believe in making their community a better place and support local causes in remarkable ways.
Each year (except during the recent Covid-19 Pandemic), the Battle River Community Foundation celebrates local individuals or couples who have lived their lives with a commitment to serving their community. These well-deserving people are given the title of Community Builder and honoured at a fundraising dinner in the community they serve.
The goal of these special evenings is to recognise those who share the “giving back” philosophy that is so integral to the success of the Battle River Community Foundation and raise money for worthy local causes, while also giving people in the Battle River Area insight into how the Foundation supports local communities.
A fund named for each Community Builder is held by the Foundation, that fund continues granting in their name, honouring their contributions to their communities forever. Many donors continue to make contributions to these funds to honour Community Builders.
Open House
The Foundation welcomes you to celebrate annual impacts made possible by our donors and grantees, meet supporters including Board Members and ambassadors, and be among the first to receive annual reports.
The Battle River Community Foundation Board, Staff, and Ambassadors welcome everyone interested in the Foundation to attend the annual open house events where previous year’s operations are reviewed, annual reports including financial statements are released, and stories of donors and grant recipients are shared. The impact of the Foundation, donors, and grantees is recognized and celebrated.
Starting in 2022, Foundation will host an open house in Camrose and an open house in another community served by the Foundation.
Professional Advisors Luncheon
It has been a great benefit to building the Foundation to have the support of local professional advisors – financial planners, accountants and lawyers who recommend the Foundation as a beneficiary of their clients’ wills, estates and ongoing donations.
Professional advisors promote the Foundation and help it grow — but the Foundation has also received direct financial support from the advisors, who have proven themselves as willing to make their own donations to the Foundation.
In 2012, the Foundation began hosting an annual “hamburger luncheon” for local advisors. It was an opportunity to share information about the Foundation’s activities and to help ensure advisors were aware of the Foundation’s activities, so they could share information with their clients.
The ‘price of admission’ to the lunch has traditionally been a $500 donation to the BRCF’s Professional Advisors’ Fund. Over the years, the event has raised over $140,000 in donations from local professional advisors — an average of over $14,000 per year. Several professional advisors have also set up their own individual administration funds. Income from the Professional Advisors Funds supports the Foundation’s operating costs.
